What is Interface Embedded-Service-Engine0/0, and how do you configure it?

Cisco Integrated Services Routers Generation 2 (Cisco ISRs G2) have dual  core CPUs on the motherboard. The first core runs Cisco IOS software as  Cisco Integrated Services Routers (ISRs) do; the second core, or the Embedded Service Engine, is capable of running Linux-based applications.

The following Cisco ISR G2 platforms support the Embedded Service Engine:
Cisco 2911
Cisco 2921
Cisco 2951
Cisco 3925
Cisco 3945

Steps to configure Cisco ISR G2 for CIMC-E
  1. enable
  2. config terminal
  3. ip http secure-server
  4. ip http authentication local
  5. exit

Please click here for detailed instruction for the configuration.

Steps to upgrade IOS on 2811 from V 12.2.X to V 15

We purchased several Cisco 2811 with Advanced IP Services - they are version 12.2.X

The product number looked like this
CISCO2811-HSEC/K9    2811 Bundle w/AIM-VPN/SSL-2,Adv IP Serv,10 SSL lic,128F/512D

We need to upgrade the IOS to version 15.1 -

Do we require a license ? What happens if we install it without a License ? Are we entitled to a free license as we are not changing the software type (ADV IP Serv) ?

As long as you paid for Advanced IP Services IOS, and have a valid service contract, you can load IOS 15. But you need to ask your sales guy or SE for the software activations key.

You can't use the new feature that requires license if you do not activate (buy) the new license. Please click here for IOS Packaging models for 2900 series routers.

If the Cisco 2950 does not have RPS connected and sh env shows no RPS connected/supported, then this is a cosmetic bug.
CSCse84332    Unexpected RPS failure message on bootup

This message is not correct since the unit does not have RPS and does not have any internal power supplies. This occurs under all conditions and these logs are erroneously indicating an error condition that does not exist. There is no workaround for this behavior. The logs can be ignored.

Try reloading the switch, else in worst case, replace the switch.

Nexus 7000 and 2000. Is FEX supported with vPC?

Is vPC supported between a single 2232PP FEX and two 7000 switches running 6.0(1)? We have been researching this for an implementation we are doing for a client and was able to determine it was not supported with earlier versions of 5.0 when the FEX is connected via vPC as we described above, but we can't find anything related to version 6.0(1). We have done this for other clients with 5000 and 2000 switches, but not with 7000 switches. Please advise.

Unfortunately, this is misleading, since you can uplink one FEX to multiple NK5s with no problems. You would think the same is possible with the 7Ks, but that is not the case. I asked the same exact question from our Cisco SE a couple of months ago. They did not have an answer as when this feature may be added to the OS. Try contacting your local SE or sales guy and see if they can ask the question for the 7K Business Unit (BU). unfortunately, the BUs are different when it comes to 5Ks vs 7Ks. so the same exact functions that you may see in 5K, may not be deployed in 7Ks and vice versa (hence this issue).

Please click here for the release notes I do not see this function being added in ver 6.

How to configure CISCO 3750X for power stacking?

We have bought 7 Cisco 3750X - 48PS switches. We configured Data Stacking between those switches. We would also like to configure Power Stacking between those 7 devices.

We found in the Data Sheet that we can only configure 4 devices in power stacking at a time. Can you please advise how to configure the rest of the 3 devices. Any suggestion on how to configure power stacking between those devices in a better way.

The power stack cable part number is CAB-SPWR-30CM.

What you do in this scenario is to create 2 powerstacks. You can have several powerstacks in the same data stack and each of the powerstacks can have a maximum of 4 3750x.
The powercables must of course not leave the powerstack ! ie the cables must be correctly inserted in the corresponding powerstack.

Please make it the 4 first switches in the first powerstack and the 3 bottom in the second powerstack. Do not forget to enable the powerstack interfaces.

Please click here for more details on how it works.
